Origin: Eighty bullets to the wing
“I wonder: what does it mean to reconstruct a tragedy? Could it mean returning to fragment zero of the nightmare to arrange the shards of that pain? Or could it mean telling oneself the story again, kneading it, reinventing it, and sharing it until the poison dissolves?”
Between November 2016 and February 2017, at the Haroldo Conti Cultural Centre of Memory in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pablo Gershanik developed what would become the foundational project of The Intimate Maquettes Lab.
A visual and audiovisual work embodied in a “maquette-installation,” it took the city of La Plata, in the Province of Buenos Aires, as its starting point to create a representation combining images, memories, and sounds from the city’s social and political reality during the 1970s. At the same time, through a kinetic device, a real-time projection moved across the work, drawing on Gershanik’s family history and, more specifically, on the story of Mario, his father. A story of absence, lead, and gunpowder.
“80 balas sobre el ala”, a project in which Julián Teubal also participated, received awards and support from the Haroldo Conti Cultural Centre of Memory, the French Institutes of France and Argentina, the Centquatre, and the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
